Day 454: Howard Stern Yesterday, I was explaining how Stan Lee realized being entertaining was a pretty good idea… made him Michael Jordan, Eddie Murphy, Elvis, Madonna (ooh la la), Ali, Johnny Depp a lot of money. Then Johnny Depp started drinking red wine. Speaking of very weird people… When Aphrodite lies around naked in a giant clamshell she’s a goddess… when my Aunt does it she’s a ‘drunk’ and gets a 12-month ban from the Aquarium. In other news, after a few days with some abuse hurled my way over a few off-colored jokes… The secret to inner peace is 4 words long. ‘Not my fu*king problem.’ Anyhoo… Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is: ‘Being Unpredictable’ It’s likely not going to surprise you that I think Howard Stern is great… not to mention a business genius. I’m not alone. Yesterday I explained how being entertaining is an insanely smart business strategy. Well… Only if you like lots of money. Here’s an interview regarding Howard Stern. Researcher: The average radio listener listens to the radio for eighteen minutes a day… the average for listening to Howard Stern is an hour and twenty minutes. Kenny: How could this be? Researcher: The answer is a whopping 76.4% of the time: “I want to see what he’ll say next.” He’s not only entertaining… he’s unpredictable. You watch the sporting event because you don’t know who’s going to win. So, when you hear me say: Sex is more enjoyable with a ball in your mouth. I’m writing this wearing a dress and high heel shoes while hiding in my wife’s closet hoping no one finds me... The jigsaw puzzle box said it would take 7 – 9 years and I managed to pull it off in less than 2 weeks. That I have no belly button (unfortunately I don’t and it makes for interesting looks poolside). When I mention the all-time classic, Debbie Does Dallas. *heavy breathing* There’s a good chance you will read through my material cause you wonder: “What in the world will he say next.” Unpredictable. Being vanilla and hiding your personality is up there with the WORST and most predictable journeys of all time. Question… Are your prospects / clients / network interested in what you’re going to say next? Live events, webinars, coaching calls, emails, podcasts, guest interviews etc… Both from an ‘educational’ standpoint… as well as from a ‘what will come next’ standpoint? As a business coach, you need to be dropping ‘educational bombs’ to make this all work. We’re not stand-up comedians. But… Howard Stern will tell you if you like lots of clients and want to make a lasting impact, it’s a really good idea to be, insanely, unpredictable. Are you?
