Day 1264: Comparable. Data. Decisions.

Last week we covered a lot of ground, including, the hardest thing about owning a business is not getting started, but it’s persisting when nothing is working as well as the new business idea My Drunk Aunt has.
Speaking of hear me out, old school candy necklace but with Tums, Valium, Tylenol and Ibuprofen…
Dave and Russ were having a conversation at the Pub about childhood missteps and here’s how it went:
Russ: I went through that rebellious stage when I was a kid.
Dangerous Dave: Ya, we all did… what happened to you?
Russ: Got caught shoplifting.
Dangerous Dave: Where?
Russ: The convenience store… stole a chocolate bar and the cops rolled up.
Dangerous Dave: Ya, I got caught also.
Russ: Where?
Dangerous Dave: A car dealership. It was a Cadillac.

Your one PROFIT ACCELERATION THING today is:
‘Comparables’
If you want to lose weight, jumping on a scale makes sense.
But what’s necessary is a comparable.
You might be 200 pounds…
If you were 180 three months ago, then 200 is probably a bad number.
If you were 230 three months ago, then you might be doing great.
What matters is the COMPARABLE.
Accountants screw this up consistently.
A single column of numbers on an Income Statement will not provide much intelligence for you or your high-end coaching client.
Same as the scale reading 200 pounds.
What your client needs, multiple numbers, over multiple time periods, so they can COMPARE and see how they’re trending.
Comparing revenues in April to revenues in March is a start.
But comparing April, March and February revenues is better.
Comparing 2024 April / March / February to 2025 April / March / February is a dramatic upgrade.
Compounding on what I wrote you last week…
The more data points… The better the DATA.
The better the DATA… The better the DECISIONS.
The better the DECISIONS… The better the NEW ACTIVITIES.
With 90% predictability, the accountant is providing your clients one reporting period ONLY and that’s a mistake.
