“Aim for legendary.” Jeff Bezos
I started BCM4 with four hours on The Mindset of A 7-Figure Business Coach. The first PPT slide had pictures of business people that have achieved legendary status.
- Colonel Sanders
- Steve Jobs
- Oprah
- Tony Robbins
- Bill Gates
- Jack Ma
- Elon Musk
- Jay-Z… and the list goes on
In my opinion, the best is Jeff Bezos. In 1997 he was worth over 1 Billion. And people were making fun of his business model and predicting his demise.
He played the long game with Amazon, always reinvesting in the company, and never worried about short-term profits. The stock was volatile as heck and he made shareholders crazy.
Well, he recently overtook Bill Gates as the richest man in the world. Note: Bill Gates was at the end of his career when he achieved “richest man in the world” status and had some serious compound interest built up… Jeff Bezos is only getting started.
They say he’ll be the world’s first trillionaire. That’s a million millions.
Wild.
The bottom line – he played the long game. And he showed up every single day with laser light focus for a couple of decades… despite a number of challenges, and no doubt many days he questioned his own sanity
This is how you become legendary
When I started as a business coach, I felt like a pretender on many days. But I just kept showing up no matter how frustrated, confused or scared I was.
In the interest of playing the long game… I’d offer (for the right prospects) to coach for a pittance of my fees for the first few months to show my worth.
Example: My fees were $1,997 per month at one stage. I’d say if you get started today I’ll do it for $333 this month, $666 next month, $997 month 3 and $1997 month 4 onwards. In some cases, I’d actually go as low as $100, 300, 500, 700, 900, 997, $1,997 per month.
I always offered a money back guarantee.
The first few months were not all that exciting financially. But when I had 35 coaching clients continuously paying each month… I started to get somewhere.
Eventually, it all clicked
I built a system… a huge team of coaches to support all my clients. I built a whopping business that did more in a month (I averaged $400k per month in new small business coaching clients for a long time) than I had set my sights on per year!
At this stage, I’m not legendary by any stretch and I know that. But I guarantee I’ll be remembered in the business coaching space long after I’m gone.
That confidence simply comes from the fact I keep showing up, with laser light focus and will continue to. Nothing will stop me.
Question: are you playing the long game with your coaching business? And are you showing up with laser light focus every day?
Make sure the focus is not on you.
Setting a goal “to make $225,000 per year” is lame. A goal like that will never elevate anyone to legendary status.
I ask myself this question every day: “How do I create the standard for the entire business coaching profession.
Work towards the answer to the right question….. you can become a legend.
It’s possible.
Thanks for tuning in,
Karl
