Day 1282: Sam. Altman. Privacy. Security.
Yesterday, I was explaining why losers always lose as well as why Dave went over to his friend’s house, ate all her snacks, made a mess, did lame cartwheels, unrolled an entire toilet paper roll, didn’t flush the toilet and then left with her TV remote control in my back pocket.

My Drunk Aunt: They say communication is the key to a good relationship.
Me: Give me an example.
My Drunk Aunt: Last night my boyfriend and I were arguing, and I grabbed a knife…
Me: Oh wow, what happened next?
My Drunk Aunt: He wasn’t sure what to do so he just handed me a jar of peanut butter.
Me: And…
My Drunk Aunt: I guess my feminine instincts kicked in and I started making us sandwiches. *Phew*

I was listening to an interview with Sam Altman about privacy and AI… here are my takeaways:
1) Research says that AI is being used incorrectly.
The ultimate business hack is not a strategy or a tactic… it’s the ability to think at a higher level.
Sam Altman says AI isn’t a better search engine like Google, Bing etc…
You need to think of it as your thought and planning partner… a way to think at a higher level, not get faster at finding obvious solutions.
It’s the co-pilot for your intellect.
The real unlock isn’t speed.
It’s getting clear, using creativity, and creating leverage.
All in the interest of getting what you want and achieving what you set out to accomplish.
2) Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) will be like transistors.
It won’t feel like sci-fi, it’ll be and feel… invisible.
Transistors are in your phone, fridge, and blender, but you don’t think about them.
Transistors are quietly powering everything you use around you and they just feel normal.
AGI is like that.
Invisible and powerful.
3) The Danger…
It’s not technology.
You’re likely worried about AI going mad and turning on you and your loved ones.
He says he’s more afraid of people abusing it.
His concern is bad people getting access to these powerful tools and models to create chaos, spread misinformation, launch bio-terror, or even break out into war.
The problem isn’t AGI… its bad intentions with the power of AGI added.
4) The American Dream reimagined.
AGI gives you a ‘personal tutor.’
It’s not about robots replacing your job.
If done properly… AI could reduce inequality by:
Lowering the cost of living
Helping the healthcare industry
Making experts out of the average high school student
Building incredible problem-solving businesses with limited people and limited capital.
5) AI agents
The most exciting use is AI agents.
Altman says…
You’ll soon have models that can help you:
Discover new useful materials
Invention of new medicine(s)
And even unveil the laws of physics in a new and powerful way.
AI won’t just help you do what you do quicker… it’ll help you do what others like Steve Jobs never could have accomplished.
6) Regulation
Regulation matters, but not in the manner most experts are currently thinking.
He isn’t scared of the innovation coming.
He is worried about the misuse.
He says we need rules on:
Security
Frontier tool and model access
Privacy
His point of view is to regulate how it gets used, not who gets to build what.
In conclusion..
AI moves FAST, as you no doubt know…
… listen to the experts to stay on top of it and what’s going on around you and don’t be intimidated.
