Yesterday I was explaining why you can be far more profitable making your elevators glass rather than speeding them up as well as how My Drunk Aunt told me she wanted to be a billionaire like her uncle.

Speaking of him not being a billionaire but wanting to be a billionaire too…

I saw Dave last night, and he looked a little odd. Here’s our conversation:

‘How to Market a Band’

If you’ve ever watched American Idol / The Voice you’ve probably thought to yourself…

‘Wow, he / she is going to be famous… what a voice!’

After the show…

… never to be heard from again.

How do you help an artist crack it?

Artists are renowned for making very little or getting taken advantage of.

Being a successful artist is about:

1) Talent

2) Marketing

The ‘talent’ piece is obvious.

Marketing… here are mistakes they consistently make:

  1. Content content content… They need to put out songs and those songs need to be played online every day (TikTok, IG, FB etc…). *If they’re not willing to do a social media post everyday singing… they do not have a deep desire to make people feel good through song.

  1. Every song needs a video… songs with a video get 50 times the exposure on social.

  1. Every video needs someone that can act and that’s likely not the band members. The band plays, the singer sings and actors act.

  1. Professional / hi quality pics… a picture is worth a thousand words. They need professional pics.

  1. Identity… think of your favorite bands and they have a clear identity. Note: it wasn’t formed on day 1… it’s morphed and that’s OK, but it must be formed. Madonna, Metallica, Elvis, Beatles, Springsteen, Garth Brooks, Michael Jackson, Queen, AC/DC, Taylor Swift, GnR etc… all had insanely clear identities.

  1. That identity needs to be owned and different.

  1. The lead singer needs to represent that band’s IDENTITY to a T.

  1. Their clothing… To be cool you need to look cool and therefore their attire matters. The clothes need to be cool and represent the IDENTITY of the band. You’d be amazed at the super-cool and trendy clothes you can find in thrift stores and online in places like eBay.

  1. Reinforce the need for consistent daily content on social.

You may have heard of a kid named Justin Bieber…

… he was discovered online.

He knew two things mattered:

  1. Talent
  2. Marketing

Read the above again and think about a business coach.
