Speaking of how she’s not going to do that again…

I was chatting with Dave this morning and here’s how our conversation went:

Me: How you doing?

Dangerous Dave: I didn’t sleep well last night so this morning I made myself tea with Red Bull rather than hot water.

Me: And?

Dangerous Dave: I was halfway to my first meeting when I realized I forgot my car.

Here are some creative high-level networking tips for you:

– Be authentic

– Use the frame ‘what can I GIVE’ versus what can I get

– Be genuinely curious

– Be genuinely interested

– Be interesting and entertaining (don’t over do it too quick)

– Don’t be overly weird

– Tell great stories you’ve practiced in private

– Provide interesting unknown facts

– Ask interesting questions

– Be Santa rather than The Grinch

– Be different

– Talk about your hobbies / interests / passions

– Talk about their hobbies / interests / passions

– Talk about popular current events in an interesting way (not a lame opinionated way which is French for ‘talking at them’)

– Know / understand macro topics

… I try to drop interesting material and have you say, “Wow, I’ve never heard it explained like that before”… “That’s an interesting perspective”… “I stopped and wrote down what you said.”

Before you meet someone at the next high-end networking event, have your points, ideas, metaphors, examples and stories ready.
