Day 1398: Scarcity. Urgency. Results.

Yesterday I was explaining how Elon got his start with PayPal in a very unimpressive way, as well as what Dick told his teacher in relation to his math grades.

Speaking of him not wanting to scare Miss James, but his Daddy said if he didn’t start getting better grades, somebody’s going to get a spanking…

Dave’s 19-year-old nephew isn’t talking to him.

His nephew was trying to chat up with a cute girl at the restaurant and here’s how the conversation went:

*Nephew establishes small talk with cute girl*

Nephew: I travel for work.

Dangerous Dave: You work at Dominos.

Cute Girl:

*His nephew sticks with it, makes some headway*

Nephew: My place is on the lake.

Dangerous Dave: You live with your parents.

Nephew:

Cute Girl:

Nephew: *grabs her hand* Let’s go chat over here away from him.

Dangerous Dave:

As a coach, you have limited capacity… regardless of how many clients you have.

To not use scarcity / urgency is a mistake.

‘Urgency’ is a time framework.’

‘Scarcity’ is a product / service availability framework.’

‘You have 24 hours’ is urgency.’

‘I only have 2 spots available’ is scarcity.’

Both will increase your results.

‘I’m very limited with the number of people I can work with, and the best coaching clients make HARD decisions quickly, and I find those that don’t… don’t make for responsive clients and therefore not the client I’ll get my usual stellar results with.’

Your results are my report card.

Therefore, I’ll give you 48 hours to decide and then respectfully, if you haven’t made your decision of YES… I’ll make my decision of no because I am a results-based mentor.

SAY NOTHING… LET THEM ANSWER.

If they answer in a positive way, you say CONGRATULATIONS… and assume it’s done and start talking about next steps and about how excited you are for them.

Both urgency and scarcity.

After your one-to-one meeting:

‘As you can imagine, given the fact I can find any business owner 100 k in 45 minutes without them spending an extra dollar on marketing or advertising – and I have a wildly successful operating system that we’ll install into your business… I have a long list of business owners who want to work with me and due to the amount of work I do for you and the high level of results I get with you, I’m only able to fit ten clients at any one time.

I’d prefer to work with you because of our past relationship (you’re a member of the Chamber, your site is ranked high / low, you’re advertising on the radio)… so what’s your decision? Do you want to grow your business with me and start installing our operating system?’
