Day 1421: Obvious. Attractive. Easy. Satisfying.

Yesterday I gave you the secret sauce of Mary Kaye cosmetics as well as how my wife sent me a text that said, ‘you’re great’ and I naturally wrote back, ‘No, you’re great’ and she’s been walking around in a great mood ever since.
Speaking of how, I’m not sure if I should tell her I was correcting her grammar or not…
Dave’s Girlfriend was speaking with Wifey and here’s how their conversation went:
Wifey: Dave’s an interesting guy give me a couple crazy stories.
Dave’s Girlfriend: Dave wanted to be super scary for Halloween this year so instead of wearing a costume, he walked around with a school fundraising packet to each door.
He was teaching drama class, and the kids had two sock puppets… he had them make glove.
Dave once went to a feminist rally, he came back with his shirt ironed and a sandwich.
Made himself steak for dinner last night… he sprayed the pepper on.

A great book, I highly recommend.
The premise of the book is that you can accomplish your goals by understanding / demonstrating the four laws of behavioral change, which are:
– Make it obvious
– Make it attractive
– Make it easy
– Make it satisfying
Here are some of my other notes from the book:
Your ‘why’ behind your habit is more important than your actual habit.
You need to concentrate on repetition and not perfection.
You will continue a habit IF you see results. As in, the habit satisfies a need. Depression satisfies a need of ‘connection with oneself’ the same way exercise does.
Start your positive habits with a small, easy action. Example is putting on your running shoes for exercise or writing a single line of your email / book.
Your personal environment goes a LONG way in determining your habits. People don’t start drinking, smoking or doing drugs alone… it just ends up that way.
You celebrate your local sports team etc… so why not celebrate your own small wins? Lots of regular season games, playoff games, series wins prior to winning the World Series. Even during a losing season.
Create similar for your weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual activities.
Acknowledge and celebrate your wins… do same with and for your clients.
Small positive adjustments lead to incredible improvements / results.
Difficult habits become enjoyable when you associate positive experiences to them.
You are what you do (not what you think about).
The “Cue – Reward – Routine” cycle is the foundation of your habits.
People wake up, have a cup of coffee because it stimulates them. Cue = wake up. Routine = coffee (cigarette). Reward = stimulant (relaxation).
Don’t change the ‘cue’ or the ‘reward’… change your routine like chewing gum rather than grabbing a smoke.
Your habits work best when they become your identity.
High achiever, fit, mother, entrepreneur, rock star, body of an athlete, handyman or even my large shoe size could be considered an identity :o)
