Day 85: Playing Hockey in the NHL
Yesterday I provided you a bullet-proof step by step roadmap on how to use social media to get business coaching clients.
Check it out if you haven’t already.
On an unrelated note, I had a week where I’ve been bursting with pride behind the scenes.
A young guy I used to coach got the call up to the NHL’s St Louis Blues… not only did he play well, but he also scored a goal in his first game and got 1st star in his second.
And was promoted to the first line for the following game.
To go from ‘call up’ to ‘4th liner’ to ‘first star of the game’ to ‘first line’ in three games in the NHL is borderline unheard of.
And another one I keep in close contact with is Dillon Dube. He was Captain of the Canadian World Junior team when they won Gold in 2018… got called up to the NHL’s Calgary Flames and he too is lighting it up.
What a stud and a very special young man.
BTW Nathan Walker, mentioned above, attended my “Goal Scoring School” many years ago… his first NHL goal literally went off his arse.
I told his Mom that I definitely taught him everything he knows HAHA
Anyhoo…
Me getting all adoring about a couple of young hockey pupils is all relevant because…
Today’s ONE THING is ‘Why Not You?’
If you follow football you know that Patrick Mahomes, in his first year as a starter, was the MVP of the NFL last year.
He won ahead of established legends like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Drew Brees etc…
If you follow hockey you’d likely agree Connor McDavid quickly surpassed Sidney Crosby as the best player in the league.
Will 19-year-old Canadian sweetheart Bianca Andreescu surpass Serena Williams?
Will Giannis Antetokounmpo (I may have just broke my spell check) overtake Lebron?
I dunno… but someone will.
And where the heck did The Wolf of Wall Street’s Margot Robbie come from?
*Whispers* REOW (heavy breathing).
Talk about someone going from 0 to 60… she may be personally responsible for Global Warming.
Someone call Al Gore.
Quick.
Bottom line as per above…. the new… take over the old.
So where am I going with all this?
Your newsflash is:
If it happens in the NFL, MLB, NBA, PGA, AFL (Aussie Rules!) etc… it can happen to Tony Robbins.
And it can sure as heck happen in your local business community.
I’d bet PLENTY that there is not a single person in your local community ‘raising the bar and inspiring business owners.’
It comes down to no one really cares enough.
This message was prompted by a conversation I had with a “heavyweight” (subjective) in our industry.
I told him I thought I could surpass Seth Godin in popularity amongst business coaches.
I didn’t say tomorrow… I said I’m IN THIS TO WIN THIS and if I choose that goal I’d be amazed if I didn’t achieve it.
He appeared taken aback ay my audacity… like he was insulted by my ambition LOL.
Here’s the reality.
I’m not trying to impress him or anyone…
I’m trying to impress ME.
I’m competing with myself.
Don’t worry about the naysayers and those trying to protect their little (nonexistent) perch.
YOU can be the number one business coach in your city, state, country, niche etc…
QUICKLY.
Imagine calling the local accountant and him / her saying:
“Wow I can’t believe it’s you on the phone!”
Imagine calling the local Chamber of Commerce and the Chairman of the board saying:
“Which date works best for you to come and talk to our members?”
The local magazine call you:
“Would you be willing to be interviewed in next month’s edition?”
To say that’s possible is an understatement on steroids.
If Nathan Walker can go from the farm team to the NHL and from the 4th line, to the 1st line in three games (all in one week) you can probably get some attention in your local marketplace.
He wanted it.
He worked HIS ARSE OFF when no one was looking.
Missed out on some sleep.
You get out of life… what you REFUSE to give up on.
“Why not you.”
You heard it here first.
Speaking of sleep… Yes, please.
