Day 1251: Relative. Gain. Sales. Exciting.

Yesterday I gave you the powerful questions to ask in your quarterly review as well as why Stu told Dave he’s no longer going to the gym.

Speaking of the last time he was there, he kept using his phone and a guy came up and asked him if it was fingers day…

I was at the local pub with My Drunk Aunt and Dave and here’s our conversation:

Me: So, tell me what’s on your mind:

My Drunk Aunt: Apple watches are just Tomagotchi’s except the stupid animal you’re trying to keep alive is yourself.

Dangerous Dave: I’m glad you’re learning to laugh at yourself… was getting awkward for the rest of us.

My Drunk Aunt: Money tip… if you garden naked your neighbors will build a privacy fence at no cost to you.

Dangerous Dave: The back in horseback riding is probably unnecessary.

My Drunk Aunt: I’m terrified to go to an art museum cause what if they decide to keep me.

When you overdo your strength, it becomes your weakness.

Anyhoo..

Your one PROFIT ACCELERATION THING today is:

‘Relative Gain’

I’ve been in business coaching for 20 years…

… I’d imagine you’d agree it’s rare (HARD) for someone to stick with something for two decades without a break.

Why?

My niece recently turned 7… and she was EXCITED!

Why wasn’t I that excited when I turned 47?

Imagine how unexcited I’ll be when I turn 67?

What about 87?

Zoinx.

There are two reasons why:

1. Psychology

2. MATH

Psychology because a 6-year-old wants to turn 7…

And a 46-year-old doesn’t want to turn 47.

Math cause 6 to 7 is a 16% increase and 46 to 47 is a 2% increase.

One significantly larger than the other.

It’s RELATIVE GAIN and here’s how it’s relevant to business and your high-end coaching clients.

You need to manage their psychology when MATH is not exciting due to relative gain.

They launch a new product, and it goes from 0 to $100,000 in sales.

EXCITING.

When they continue to sell the product and increase sales from $100,000 to $115,000.

Not exciting.

Why..?

Relative gain.

Feels like a plateau and if you’ve ever studied psychology, you’ll know plateaus are lame.

When this happens, what does the business owner do?

New product… new service… new offering… starts seeing ‘exciting’ shiny lights everywhere.

Then wonder why they fail.

Like a kid that keeps changing sports… never mastered one and doesn’t experience ‘success’.

Help your clients manage their psychology and understand the reason is the same as the 7-year-old versus the 47-year-old.

Can I turn 7 again…?

Pretty, please?!?
