Valuation VS Evaluation
This one is a pet peeve of mine.
I hear people mess up these words as consistently as I confuse definitely, definitely, definitively and defiantly on my daughters homework.
Valuation and evaluation are different concepts.
Valuation: is the process of determining the value of an asset or business.
It can be done via market analysis, financial modeling and comparison with similar assets and or companies.
Valuation is done for the purpose of buying / selling / valuing an asset or for accounting and financial reporting.
Evaluation: is the process of assessing quality or performance.
Methods like analysis, testing, and observation.
Evaluation is usually conducted to determine the effectiveness of a program, product, or service, or to provide feedback for improvement.
Here it is today in two sentences for you:
‘Valuation is about determining the value of an asset or financial instrument.
Evaluation is about assessing the quality or performance of something.’
For my sanity… please stop messing it up when speaking to me.
