Day 340: The Bad Cop

Yesterday I gave you a little inspiration…

Tom Brady is glad he didn’t quit after he was cut, then 7th string, then had 198 players drafted before him, then held a clipboard for Drew Bledsoe…

Then Brady became THE GOAT twenty years later?!?

Maybe you’re the next GREAT local business coach in your area…

BTW…

When they said they wanted things to return to normal…

They didn’t necessarily mean they wanted Tom Brady to win the Super Bowl again.

‘The Bad Cop’

Here’s something I’ve learned after years in business…

Many staff…

Many motivational, rah rah, type situations.

*My goal was and is to bring out the BEST in them*

Here It Is:

If you make ‘the goal’ the bad cop… you no longer need to be the bad cop.

Use hockey as an example…

When I needed to staple a guy to the bench for the last 2 minutes of the game…

The bad cop is that we just need to win the game so our best defensive guys will be used.

They were seldom happy… but also seldom a dispute.

‘Winning the game’ became the ‘bad cop’.

When you and your high-end clients are working with staff…

‘I just need you to make a few more calls so we can achieve the goal of XXX revenue this month… we’re almost there so let’s all keep going and accomplish our goal.’

Bottom line… help your client make the goal the Bad Cop and watch what happens.
