Day 369: Language Of Business

Yesterday my buddy Mike and I had a laugh over some of the abuse I got from yesterday’s message…

Question:

When did the world stop being able to take a slightly dirty joke..?!?!

Speaking of being dirty….

I was going through some boxes in storage and found a really old porno on VHS called ‘Head Cleaner’.

Sounds HOT!

Speaking of pornos…

During my 2001 audition only one word stood in between me and my dreams of staring in a porno:

“Lack”

Lack of personality…

Lack of ‘hip flexibility’….

Lack of ‘camera presence’…

And, Lack of size.

And that’s not my height they were talking about.

*Apparently, the size of my nose was the only thing not ‘lacking’*

Anyhoo…

Your ONE COACHING THING Today Is:

‘The Language of Business’

Countries have a language.

Sports have a language.

Business has a language.

The language of business is…

When asked, 90% of business owners will say ‘marketing’.

And they’d be dead, wrong.

The language of business is…

And this is according to Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio, and other ethical, rock star, billionaires…

… ACCOUNTING.

Not lightweight accounting like ‘debits and credits’… accounting, as in being able read and understand basic financial documents.

The same way a doctor can read blood tests and an MRI.

A good business owner should be able to look at a set of basic financial documents… diagnose the problem and have a firm grasp of the solution.

If you’ve ever watched ‘The Profit’ you’ve seen Marcus Lemonis do this.

Therefore… and in simple English.

Accounting is the process of turning business activities into numbers on a financial document.

Business Analysis is the process of converting the numbers on the financial document back into improved activities.

Change the activities… change the numbers.

More to the point…

Improve the activities… 

Improve the numbers.
