Day 437: Simone Biles

Yesterday I mentioned that my 22-year-old stepdaughter has the lovely virus…

She’s a tad sick but already on the mend… thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

While on house arrest, I was worried I also had it, was feeling sore, run-down, lacking energy and so tired that I fell asleep standing up.

I looked up my symptoms on Google.

Turns out I’m just an entrepreneur with kids.

Having a kid is like having a broke little best friend who thinks you have an endless supply of time, energy, and money.

In other news…

They say a person only needs three things to be truly happy in this world. Someone to love, something to do, and something to hope for.

BOOM!

Anyhoo…

‘Simone Biles’

I wrote this on my FB page on Tuesday after Simone pulled out of the group event:

“I’m sending love to Simone Biles. Heartbreaking to hear she’s struggling.”

Amongst some nice and supportive messages for Simone… a jackass FB friend wrote:

“You find it heartbreaking that she quit on her teammates? That’s what the Olympics are all about. Do you want them to start giving out participation medals next?”

My reply:

“WTF are you talking about?

Simone Biles is already an Olympic legend… she was sexually assaulted by a guy doing about 170 years in prison.

She deals with more pressure and accomplishes more on her average Tuesday than you do in an entire year.

Stop the ‘participation medal bravado’, it’s embarrassing.”

The kicker is I know this guy…

If they gave out participation medals for business coaching, he’d miss out for ‘lack of participation’ lol

She’s a big shot at the Olympics and he’s on FB acting like a big shot.

Moral of the story:

I’m all for winning, intestinal fortitude, and mental toughness…

I talk about it all the time.

But…

Mental Health Matters!

If she broke her ankle… it would be painfully obvious that she needed to sit out.

Imagine twisting yourself multiple times at 25mph and not having your mental bearings..?!?!

Any idea how incredibly dangerous that would be?

As in, ever heard of a broken neck?

Do they realize that Michael Phelps struggled(s) mightily with the weight of the Nation on his broad shoulders also?

Michael Jordan took a break.

Barry Sanders retired while the best in the game at his position.

Andrew Luck walked away.

Gronk took a break.

Calvin Johnson retired.

Everybody wants to be famous…

Until they’re famous.

So, be kind.

Always.

You never know what someone else is going through.

You heard it here first.

Kinda.

Now, pick up the phone and go help someone.
